Sketches

October 23 @ 7:00 pm
$15 – $20

Joaquín Turina paints Seville in the loose, atmospheric strokes of a nocturnal scene rather than a formal argument, while Johannes Brahms set his C minor quartet aside for twenty years before returning to complete what he’d only sketched in the depths of his devotion to Clara Schumann. Most striking of all, Alfred Schnittke built an entire companion work from seventeen surviving bars Gustav Mahler left behind as a sixteen year old, a fragment abandoned and then, a century later, finally given its ending.
