DESCRIPTION:NEPACMS is thrilled to present its most ambitious program yet\, pairing the sublime Brahms Second Sextet\, a masterpiece exuding elegance and rich lyricism\, with Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence\, a bright and vigorous composition for string sextet\, reminiscent of his renowned ballets. Over several years\, Tchaikovsky painstakingly sketched\, worked on\, and reworked Souvenir de Florence\, and expressed that composing for a string sextet is “terribly difficult…it seems that rather than writing for six voices\, I am\, in essence\, composing for the orchestra\, and only then arranging it for six string instruments.” Indeed\, these magnificent string sextets will fill the venue with resonances like an orchestra! \n\n\n\n(No senior/student discount. SUMMARY:Vibrant Sonorities
DESCRIPTION:A grossly underrated composer\, Josef Labor was a respected organist\, pianist\, teacher\, and composer\, who was colleagues with Johannes Brahms\, Richard Strauss\, Anton Bruckner\, Clara Schumann\, and Gustav Mahler. His piano quintet for piano\, violin\, viola\, cello\, and double bass highlights each instrument with sonorous melodies and masterfully integrates expansive harmonies. In this season-ending concert\, NEPACMS is thrilled to also present a world premiere of a piano quintet of the same instrumentation by pianist and composer Hwaen Ch’uqi. SUMMARY:A Story\, A Song
DESCRIPTION:Musicologist and composer Paul Epstein once described the four movements of Haydn’s “Lark” Quartet as “a story\, a song\, a dance\, and a party\,” capturing the vivid emotions and narratives that music can evoke. This season-opening program embodies that same spirit\, with each piece reflecting profound stories and personal experiences. Golijov’s “Tenebrae” for String Quartet emerges from the composer’s encounter with contrasting realities\, blending serenity with turbulence.
