SUMMARY:Clarinet Counterpoint (Wilkes-Barre)
DESCRIPTION:Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A Major was written almost 125 years earlier than Somervell’s Clarinet Quintet in G Major\, yet both works have extraordinary poignancy and feature the clarinet as a lyrical voice. Despite\, or one might argue that by virtue of\, the difficulties Mozart was experiencing the year he composed the work\, between Constanze’s difficult pregnancy and his own financial and health woes\, a beautiful and transcendent composition was born. Arthur Somervell\, known mostly for his song cycles\, has woven his poetic and lyrical flare into this romantic clarinet quintet\, making for a sublime chamber work that is not to be missed! \n\n\n\n\n\n \nSATURDAY 11/4 St. Stephen’s Episcopal Wilkes-Barre at 7PM\n35 S. SUMMARY:Sentimental Cello
DESCRIPTION:NEPACMS ends their 2022-2023 concert season with a spectacular lineup of artists and lush music. Tchaikovsky’s admiration and reverence of Beethoven can be seen in his letters\, articles\, and diary entries\, but he would himself leave an indelible influence and legacy as seen in the music of Glière and Arensky. Arensky’s most popular work\, and rightfully so\, Variations on a Theme of Tchaikovsky\, was an arrangement of the beautiful second movement of his own second string quartet dedicated “To the memory of Tchaikovsky” and written for violin\, viola\, and two cellos. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAM\n\n\n\nReinhold Glière Ten Duets for Two Cellos\, Op. 53 \n\n\n\nI.
