DESCRIPTION:Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A Major was written almost 125 years earlier than Somervell’s Clarinet Quintet in G Major\, yet both works have extraordinary poignancy and feature the clarinet as a lyrical voice. Despite\, or one might argue that by virtue of\, the difficulties Mozart was experiencing the year he composed the work\, between Constanze’s difficult pregnancy and his own financial and health woes\, a beautiful and transcendent composition was born. Tchaikovsky’s admiration and reverence of Beethoven can be seen in his letters\, articles\, and diary entries\, but he would himself leave an indelible influence and legacy as seen in the music of Glière and Arensky.
